A friendly place to build your public speaking confidence in Nottingham
If you feel nervous or shy about speaking in front of others, you are not alone. Many of our members felt anxious or unsure of themselves before they came to their first meeting.
Nottingham Speakers Club is a supportive group for adults in and around Nottingham. We help people build their confidence slowly, improve their speaking, and feel more comfortable in front of a group.
You do not need any experience to join us. If you are naturally quiet, or if the idea of public speaking worries you, you will be very welcome here.
At your first meeting, there is absolutely no pressure to speak. You can simply sit back, watch, and see how everything works. The first 2 visits are free too!!

When and where we meet
When and where we meet
Our club meets on Thursday evenings, usually twice a month, and we sometimes hold extra meetings as well.
Most meetings begin promptly at 7pm. We ask everyone to arrive about 15 minutes early, so there is time to say hello and settle into the room before we start.
We meet at a small number of regular venues in and around Nottingham. After you have contacted us and come along to a meeting, you will be invited to join our WhatsApp group. There, you can see future dates and book a place at the meetings that suit you best.

Our meetings give you the chance to practise speaking in a friendly and supportive setting. There are usually short speaking activities, including a simple warm-up and impromptu speaking, where you may be invited to speak for up to 3 minutes with little or no preparation. Members may also practise a speech or presentation they are working on.

Our members are friendly, welcoming, and supportive. Many of us joined because we wanted to feel more confident speaking in front of others, so we understand how that feels. We do our best to make sure everyone feels comfortable, encouraged, and respected.

No. If you would rather just watch and listen, that is absolutely fine. There is no pressure to speak before you feel ready. You can build your confidence at your own pace.

Your first two club meetings are free, so you can come along and see what the club is like. After that, our low cost annual membership is:
£55 Full membership
£27.50 Concessionary membership
(students, unwaged people, or those who need support)
Regular club meetings are free
(there may sometimes be a small charge for extra events)

You can speak about almost any topic that interests you. We ask members to avoid sex, politics, and religion, and we do not allow foul language, discrimination, or abusive language. The aim is not just to think about what you say, but also to help you improve how you say it.

Yes. We regularly hold classes to help members build their skills. These may cover areas such as speech structure, body language, audience connection, and other parts of public speaking.
